Proposal Writing

Proposal writing is to create a formal document that specifies what the writer would like to request from the reader. More importantly, the aim of the document is to demonstrate to the reader the benefits of his or her support for the writer. The proposal can be for academic research, financial assistance, business liaison, or other purpose. In any case, it is vital to conduct thorough research beforehand on who the reader is and what his or her major needs are. The sole purpose of the report should be to explain clearly and confidently how the writer will meet these needs once the proposal is accepted and his or her requests fulfilled.

Start early and collect as much background information and supporting material as possible. When writing the proposal, use precise and short sentences and avoid mistakes in grammar and spelling. Ensure what is proposed is achievable, measurable and time related, can be easily assessed, and has both medium- and long-term effects on whatever the reader is concerned about. Explain clearly how the requested resources are going to be managed and by whom. Never lie or exaggerate. Everything stated in the proposal should have sufficient evidence to back it up.
